There is increasing concern about the safety of medical marijuana in Oklahoma. Recent lab tests from a local facility revealed high levels of mold and yeast in pre-rolls. Havard Industries, upon reviewing microbial testing practices, found that recent changes in the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Authority’s (OMMA) regulations regarding final product testing might be contributing to these issues.
They believe that these findings indicate some products should be removed from shelves. Havard and his team went to three separate dispensaries and tested 5 pre – rolls at each dispensary. 14 out of 15 failed with high levels of mold and yeast within these pre – rolls. 1 out of 15 tests actually passed.
Risks with mold and yeast inhalation
Both mold and yeast pose serious risks to lung health. Regular exposure or high concentrations can lead to acute respiratory symptoms, exacerbate pre-existing conditions, and contribute to long-term health issues. It’s essential to ensure that products, particularly those intended for inhalation, are free from these contaminants to protect respiratory health.
How to be safe in the future as a consumer
If you are concerned about the pre-rolls you are smoking, the next time you go to your retailer, ask for the COA or testing results of the product. If the store does not want to or can not provide these items it would be wise to leave.
