Cannabis plants can contain about 100 unique cannabinoids , including THC and CBD. But while there’s a ton of research focused on learning more about THC and CBD, many cannabinoids are still being tested and studied.
THCjd (tetrahydrocannabioctyl) is one such mysterious cannabinoid. There isn’t a lot of data available on this substance, but products containing this cannabinoid are quickly becoming more accessible and popular. This begs the question: What is THCjd, and is it safe?
This article will answer these questions, helping you decide whether THCjd might be a suitable choice for you.
Is It Safe To Use THCjd Products?
THCjd is a powerful type of cannabinoid that may be several times more psychoactive than other types of naturally-occurring THC found in cannabis. This type of THC may produce potent psychoactive effects when isolated and distilled into a tincture or added to Delta-8 THC oils.
These effects may include :
- Slowed reflexes
- Lightheadedness
- A sense of euphoria
- Enhanced sensory perception
THCjd can be dangerous if used before operating heavy machinery (like a car). THCjd may also be too powerful for casual THC users.
It’s also worth noting that many THCjd products are relatively new and unregulated. As a result, buyers must exercise caution when purchasing THCjd tinctures, gummies, or vape cartridges, as these products could contain potentially harmful substances.
Should You Try THCjd?
THCjd could be amazing but currently reputable distillate manufacturers are not producing it. As of July 2022, the one source for jd is very questionable. Current products claiming to use THCjd could *possibly* be more harmful than good, or could *possibly* contain little to no actual jd.
At Pinnacle / Rift we want to bring these amazing cannabinoids to you but not until we know it’s actually safe from verified extractors.
Fortunately, other cannabinoid products are available, and many are backed by thousands of positive user testimonials and third-party clinical testing. If you’re looking to try a hemp-derived product, there are plenty of safer options from which to choose.
However, before you purchase CBD oil or Delta-8-THC products, you’ll want to take the time to research these cannabinoids. After all, understanding how these cannabinoids differ (and their effects) is the best way to choose a product that suits your needs and preferences.
What Is THCjd?
THCjd is a rare type of THC, a naturally occurring cannabinoid found in cannabis plants. In fact, Delta-9-THC is the most prevalent type of cannabinoid found in cannabis plants.
This differs from legal hemp plants, which primarily consist of CBD and CBG cannabinoids. These plants contain 0.3% or less THC content.
Notably, THC is what gives cannabis its psychoactive effects. Due to its psychoactive nature, THC is one of the most controversial cannabinoids, and products consisting of more than 0.3% THC are federally illegal in the United States.
But what are the differences between THCjd and THC?
THC vs. THCjd
On a chemical level, the primary difference between Delta-9-THC (the cannabinoid most people are referring to when they talk about THC) and THCjd is the number of carbon atoms located along its molecular chains.
Delta-9-THC has five carbon atoms on its sidechain, whereas THCjd has eight.
This more significant number of carbon atoms is thought to make THCjd far more psychoactive than Delta-9-THC, as it may allow the cannabinoid to bind with biological endocannabinoid receptors in the human body. But this is a purely anecdotal assumption, and more research is needed to confirm or deny this effect.
Notably, THC (and its many variations) isn’t the only type of cannabinoid found in cannabis and hemp. To better understand how these cannabinoids differ, let’s take a quick moment to discuss cannabinoid types.
Types of Cannabinoids
Cannabis is rich in cannabinoids , unique chemical compounds that interact with the human endocannabinoid system (ECS). Though we haven’t yet identified all of the cannabinoids present in cannabis and hemp plants, several types have been studied and identified.
Some of the most common and well-known types of cannabinoids include:
- THC
- CBD
- CBG
- CBN
- HHC
What Is THC?
THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) is one of the most well-known cannabinoids derived from cannabis plants.
However, there isn’t only one type of THC. For example, common varieties include:
- Delta-8-tetrahydrocannabinol
- Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol
- Delta-10-tetrahydrocannabinol
- THC-O-acetate
- THCjd
All of these cannabinoids are naturally occurring ( except for THC-O-acetate ) components of cannabis plants. Additionally, these THC types are considered psychoactive, so some varieties may not be legal in your area.
This contrasts with CBD (cannabidiol), which enjoys widespread legality throughout much of the United States and Canada.
What Is CBD?
Besides THC, CBD (cannabidiol) is the most well-known component derived from cannabis and hemp plants. CBD is most prevalent in hemp, whereas cannabis contains a high percentage of THC.
Unlike THC, CBD is non-psychoactive. As such, consuming CBD won’t make you feel “high.” In addition, CBD is the only FDA-approved cannabinoid (thus far), and its anti-seizure effects are well researched.
What Is CBG?
CBG (cannabigerol) is found in trace quantities in most hemp and cannabis plants. Still, it’s become an incredibly popular compound within the last several years due to its similarities to CBD.
Like CBD, CBG has zero psychoactive effects. Though more research is needed to confirm the benefits of using CBG, this cannabinoid may bolster the immune system and help users focus on tasks.
What Is CBN?
Unlike THC, CBN (cannabinol) is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid. It’s notable for its potential medical usage, as recent research shows that CBN may boost nerve health.
This quality may make it a beneficial compound to help combat neurodegenerative diseases. However, CBN tinctures and oils have other (speculative) benefits, including sedative effects.
As such, CBN may be a multipurpose cannabinoid that will become more prevalent in the medical industry. In addition, due to its lack of psychoactive effects, it’s typically considered far safer than THC.
What Is HHC?
HHC (hexahydrocannabinol) is a semi-synthetic type of cannabinoid. This compound is created by adding hydrogen to Delta-9-THC, so it can be made via synthetic means. However, HHC naturally occurs in small quantities in both hemp and cannabis plants.
This cannabinoid is often compared to THC, as it is considered psychoactive. Many users have claimed that HHC is less powerful than Delta-9-THC but more potent than Delta-8-THC.
The primary benefit of HHC is that its hydrogenation allows it to be a more shelf-stable form of THC.
Learn More About Cannabinoids
THCjd is just one of dozens of cannabinoids and is still in the early stages of academic research. Still, anecdotal evidence purports that this type of THC is far more potent than Delta-9-THC.
However, this potency may not be safe for everyone, and the unregulated nature of THCjd products is problematic. When compared to CBD, THCjd can be a far riskier choice, which is why it’s vital to exercise caution when considering a THCjd product.
