Delta-8-tetrahydrocannabinol, also known as Δ8THC, is a cannabinoid among many that are found in cannabis plants and it has amazing benefits. It is more like the younger brother of the famous THC, a psychoactive component of cannabis. Due to oxidation of Delta-9 THC, Delta-8 THC is formed in cannabis. A few will be converted to its isomer form, having a remarkably similar molecular structure, known as Delta-8 THC or Δ8THC.
In CBD hemp flowers, Δ8THC is in very low concentrations (<0.1%). This form can be extracted or changed using different cannabinoids and is concentrated to be used for different things. However, some mystery is still present related to this cannabinoid. The 5 amazing things and benefits about Delta 8 THC are discussed in this article.
Delta-8 THC research, however, limited is still quite promising. The method for producing Δ8THC concentrates has multiple patents. This may demonstrate that soon shortly, more about it will be discovered. Some of the amazing benefits learned about it are:
A study conducted in 1995 published in Life Sciences showed Delta-8 THC could reduce the symptoms of nausea in children with fewer side effects. “Delta-8-tetrahydrocannabinol was given (18 mg/ml in edible oil, p.o.) to 3-13-year-old eight children having varied hematologic cancers, that were being treated with a number of antineoplastic drugs for 8 months vomiting was stopped. Side effects were negligible.”
Treatment of inflammation and pain using Delta-8 THC (and CBD) was showed in Cannabinoid and Cannabis Research Journal of 2018, “Our results proved to us that these agents, Phyto cannabinoids Δ8THC and CBD, have anti-inflammatory and anti-nociceptive uses for corneal hyperalgesia in an experimental model.
In small quantity, Delta-8 THC still showed an increase in appetite and cognitive function in mice as shown in a study of 2004 published in Pharmacol Biochem. “Delta (8)-THC (0.001 mg/kg) having fewer cannabimimetic side effects, showed a great increase in cognitive function and food consumption. Low quantities of THC may help to improve weight disorders with minimal side effects of using cannabis.”
Increase in brain function has also been seen in the research of Delta-8 3. The neurotransmitter Acetylcholine has shown to affect cognition, memory, arousal and neuroplasticity (brain’s ability to adapt and learn). Increase in neurotransmitter acetylcholine has been found after the administration of Delta 8 THC in the brain, with different THC forms influencing different areas of brains.
Delta 8 and 9 have some similar benefits. In a double-blind clinical trial study, it was found that THC greatly relieves pain and decreases anxiety 4.
Besides having control over fatigue, hunger, and cancer, Delta-8 also acts as a neuroprotective component. It acts as a treatment for people with Alzheimer’s disease and depression. This enhances learning ability and memory. Delta-8 THC is said to lessen or even reverse the disorder of Alzheimer’s, which is related to low rates of acetylcholine. Researchers also tried to test the ability of delta-8 in cancer treatment. Studies were target mice for diagnosis of lung cancer, in animals. Mice survival time was noted to have increased. A decrease in tumor size was noted for cancer patients utilizing Delta-8 for 20 days. But still, the findings were not proving enough for doctors to treat cancer with Delta-8. More evidence is needed to use this for cancer, and more experiments need to be done.
Delta 8 THC is much like the CBD, but it has more unique and amazing benefits that show very creatively when administered. Delta 8 THC is an analogue of THC with anxiolytic; helps to fights anxiety and panic attacks, antiemetic; helps to inhibit vomit and nausea, appetite-stimulating; helps to suppress hunger, analgesic; helps to relieve pain, and neuroprotective; helps to prevent ageing of nerve cells characteristics.
